Every day, in all places, people feel, sense and live experiences. Understanding their nature and motivations allows us to support experiences for cultural understanding, social inclusion and social transition.
At BUas we believe that experiences are at the heart of many of our domains, including leisure, tourism, hospitality, games, and media. These experiences also significantly influence mobility, the built environment and facilities. Our focus on Experience research and design aims to make these experiences measurable and impactful.
Experience research and design
BUas research involves using advanced quantitative and qualitative research methods to measure the impact of experiences on people. We design and develop experiences in various fields, such as leisure, tourism, hospitality, games and media, using tools like storytelling and immersive media concepts (VR, AR).
Societal challenges
Our research addresses several societal challenges:
- Memorable Experiences: These are core economic offerings in our industry.
- Meaningful Experiences: Crucial to individual well-being and quality of life.
- Transformative Experiences: Help change people’s behaviour and attitudes.
Research goals and questions within the ‘Experiences’ theme
Our primary research goals include:
- Integrating experience design knowledge across different domains.
- Developing and sharing research methods for experience measurement.
- Combining experience research methods with other knowledge areas.
Some of our key research questions are:
- Which AR/VR designs optimise the experience of real and virtual events?
- How can we improve the acceptance of assisted driving or enhance cycling lane safety based on user experiences?
Conclusion
With this research theme we are dedicated to designing high-quality experiences that contribute to well-being, sustainability, and social inclusion. By linking and integrating knowledge across various domains, we aim to create transformative experiences that have a positive impact on society.
