- About BUas
Last December, the students of the Participation Council organised the Lecturer of the Year elections. All students could nominate their lecturers, and afterwards vote for the lecturer they consider to be the best. 109 lecturers were nominated for this prestigious title and over 1,500 students gave their votes!
Just before the Christmas break the 5 Academy winners were announced: Mark McInnis (AGM), Loek Hellebrekers (ABEL), Dirk Broeren (AHF), Ewout Sanders (ALE) and Martijn Smeenge (AT).
The Executive Board picked one of these winners and yesterday the overall BUas lecturer of the year was presented. Dirk Broeren from the Academy of Hotel & Facility got an overwhelming number of votes and was the winner for both the Hotel Management and the International Facility Management programme. Dirk teaches Law at AHF.
Some quotes students gave with their vote:
“He teaches all hotel and facility students in the academy for two semesters, really knows his students, manages to grab and keep the attention of students. Really knows what he is talking about, but always humble.”
“No teacher at BUas has this incredible level of English. Furthermore, Dirk makes his lessons interactive and interesting, doesn’t matter what topic. Simply the best!”
“Mr. Broeren is a lecturer that is the best in teaching. His method of teaching is great! He loves his course and that motivates others greatly! Because of Mr. Broeren I am currently thinking of doing a minor in business law.”
Apart from the title, Dirk received €1,500 to spend on education innovation. He will represent BUas at the national Lecturer of the Year elections, organised by ISO. Dirk is the third lecturer to receive this title, after Wesley Put (2022, AT) and Bas Groot (2023, ABEL).
We wish him good luck and we are of course already very proud of him. The national winner will be announced late March.
