Study tracks
You choose one of these study tracks:
- Visual Arts
If you choose for Visual Arts, you will be prepared for a role as a 3D modeller, animator, character artist, or environment artist in the games industry. You will learn all about 3D modelling, texturing, rendering, drawing, animation, and building virtual worlds.
- Design & Production
Are you interested in the Design & Production aspects of the game industry? In this track we prepare you for a role as a game designer, level designer, system or tech designer, or producer for the game industry.
- Programming
Are you ready to embark on a journey through the world of programming? This track will prepare you for a role as a software engineer in the creative media or games industry, including console, PC and handheld gaming consoles.
- Film Visual Effects
Are you interested in film post-production, and do you want to learn to create visual effects for films, TV shows, and video games? This track will prepare you for a role as a previsualisation artist, creature technical director, matte painter or lighting artist, just to name a few.
Teaching method
This games programme prepares you for a future in the international games industry. You will gain broad knowledge of game technology and will mainly work on skills. You will learn all about game development, gameplay and level design, 3D visual arts, animation, audio, production, and programming. In our simulation studio, you will of course work on games. You will do this individually, but also together with other students.
You choose a study track before the start of your studies, so that right from year 1 you take on the role that best suits your own interests and development wishes. In the second year, you can either choose to become a ‘general developer’ after all, or continue in the direction you chose in the first year. Examples of roles include character artist, graphics programmer and level designer.
Study load and coaching
BUas' Games programme is one of the best in the world. The programme is challenging and tough. You work long days on the BUas campus or at an internship company. So keep in mind that this study will take a lot of time. We are looking for students who are really interested in developing games and who already have an idea of the different roles/jobs in the games industry. Enjoying gaming is not enough. Before you start with us, you must be able to show a portfolio. So you have to invest time in that. On the other hand, you will further build your portfolio during your studies, with the help of professionals from the international gaming world. This will help you find your place in the gaming industry.
